Since our beginnings in 1988, Stanford Painting has prided itself on serving the Palo Alto community, one painting project at a time. Recently, we signed on to repaint and restore Gamble Garden, a vibrant treasure and destination within our community. We’re honored to have been chosen to revitalize this community staple for the third time in 32 years.

Over its 117-year history, the mission of the Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden has been “dedicated to maintaining and enhancing our historic house and garden as an oasis of beauty and tranquility, providing a community resource for horticultural education, inspiration, and enjoyment.” The main house was constructed in 1902, with the formal gardens following in 1908.

In 1981, the granddaughter of the co-founder of Procter & Gamble, Elizabeth Frances Gamble, donated the house and garden to the City of Palo Alto. Four years later, the Garden Club of Palo Alto organized a community campaign, leading to the creation of a new not-for-profit foundation dedicated to maintaining and restoring the garden and its buildings.

Over the past three decades, the gardens have been completely restored to its original beauty. New buildings have been constructed, including a horticultural office and tool house, and the older buildings have received the necessary structural repairs. Garden paths, irrigation systems, and lighting have also been updated to enhance the property so it may be enjoyed for generations to come.

Today, Gamble Garden serves as a perfect setting for wedding ceremonies and receptions, baby and bridal showers, and other special events. It’s also a wonderful location for daytime business meetings or retreats. Additionally, the garden is also available for grade-school field trips and plant sales, keeping with its mission of giving back the community.

The Garden is open daily during daylight hours. Admission is free and disabled accessible.

Stanford Painting is a local, family-owned business with strong roots in our community. We’re so proud to be awarded his opportunity to revitalize this staple of the Palo Alto community.
