Color Wheels Exist for a Reason!

Color wheels are a great tool for pointing an overwhelmed painter in the right direction.

While it may sound like common sense, the colors in a color wheel that are next to each other will compliment each other. If you have already chosen your primary wall color, studying its surrounding colors on the color wheel may determine what can look best either as a trim color or in other rooms of your home.

Follow the 60-30-10 Rule

Choosing interior paint colors in particular becomes all the more simple when you follow the 60-30-10 rule. This rule follows one simple concept: have 60% of the colors in a given space be composed of a dominant color, have 30% of the colors be a secondary color, and the remaining 10% be an accent color. Following this will give your home a lasting design impact!

This rule can also be applied if you are painting the exterior of your home rather than the interior. 60% of the color can be applied to your home’s main surface, 30% to the window trimmings, and 10% as an accent color, such as a pop of color on the front door.
