In northern California, we’re fortunate to escape the cold and snowy weather that affects much of the United States during the winter season. However, our cooler rainy season does sometimes make us want to hibernate until the warmer days of spring and summer.

The good news is you can create a comfortable, cozy home to combat the winter blues. Follow these simple décor tips to keep you warm and snug indoors:

  • Bundle up with blankets. This may seem like a no brainer, but using blankets, throws, and pillows can transform the look and feel of your home. These items not only supply a pop of color and a feeling of warmth, but they also add a touch of comfort to your home. Throw a knit blanket over your couch for an extra layer of texture or toss on some seasonal decorative pillows for a fun, colorful look. For added visual interest, add a wicker basket to store additional winter blankets and throws.
  • Roll out the rugs. Nothing adds a focal point to a living space like an area rug. From shag to plush and from understated to vibrant, a rug can pull all the design elements in your living room, bedroom, or even bathroom, together. Rugs are not only fabulous but functional – they keep your feet warm and give you a comfortable place to step while helping to keep some of the heat in your home.
  • Add some ambiance. Winter is the perfect time to use the candles you were gifted over the holidays. A warm glow of a candle in a homey scent (vanilla, cinnamon) adds a layer of coziness to any room. Candles can also be used as a kitchen or dining room table centerpieces, or pique visual interest on a mantel or side table.
  • Stock up on snacks. Whether you’re curled up with a good book on a chilly day or welcoming surprise guests, snacks provide an added level of comfort and warmth. Keep tried and true snacks such as popcorn, nuts, or chocolate along with an assortment of coffees and teas on hand just in case.

Now that you’re warm and cozy indoors, you’ll forget about the chilly winter weather. Enjoy!
