ENJOY YOUR OUTDOOR SPACES

Looking back on the past sixteen months, we’ve learned to appreciate our outdoor spaces more than ever. We spent more time outside with our families creating more usable living spaces, transforming our backyard into a “staycation” destination, and escaping from the stresses of everyday life.

The trend for the remainder of 2021 is to continue to embrace and enjoy our outdoor spaces. If you’re looking to create a personal oasis in your backyard, here are some ideas:

Warm & Inviting Outdoor Areas

As we continue to follow local mandates due to the continuing pandemic, we find ourselves craving a relaxing area in homes. Create a space that inspires comfort and conversations by including pergolas, outdoor dining areas, or fire pits in your design scheme. Take the opportunity to slow down, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy the simple pleasures in life year-round.

Pergolas

If you don’t have room to build a large deck, consider adding a pergola. A pergola is a perfect option to take your average backyard patio to the next level. Not only will it provide shade on those warm summer days, but it also takes your curb appeal up a notch. A beautiful outdoor kitchen or seating area shaded by a pergola provides you with an ideal space to entertain family and friends for a mid-day BBQ or evening cocktails.

Wood Accents

Look for natural or composite wood to replace light-colored siding in 2021 and beyond. Wood accents are versatile and complement a variety of architectural styles such as farmhouse and contemporary. Find a place on your home’s exterior – siding, accent tables, or fencing – and embrace the wood trend.

Subtle Lighting

Soothing lighting helps us decompress from the disarray of the outside world. When it comes to outdoor lighting, it’s important to have dark and light areas to highlight spaces where you want to draw your eye. From accent lighting on steps and seating to moonlighting in mature trees and gardens, a well-designed lighting scheme enhances your outdoor living experience and extends your time spent outdoors with family and friends.

Go Blue

Classic Blue may have been the 2020 Pantone Color of the Year, but look for the color to continue to trend this year, as it reminds us of summer. Incorporate blue into your backyard with decorative planters or seating. If you’re truly inspired by blue hues, consider making blue your dominant garden color. Plant some Aster, Spanish Bluebells, or Hydrangeas in your backyard.
