Best Free Interior Design Apps
THE BEST FREE INTERIOR DESIGN APPS
Gone are the days when you needed to hire a professional designer to revamp your home’s interior. With several decorating apps to choose from and inspiration just a click away, redecorating your home has never been easier. Augmented Reality (AR) allows you to use your phone to see how colors, accessories, and furniture will look in your home.
Whether you’re looking to give your living room a spring refresh or want to completely redecorate your home, you can create a stunning look without breaking the bank. Here are some apps to help you get started.
Four Free Redecorating Apps
Houzz
Start your online inspiration with Houzz! The app houses over 17 million high-resolution photos, which can be filtered by room, style, budget, size, color, or any combination thereof. Most of the images also include information for easy purchase within the Houzz app. If you’re not ready to buy just yet, save the photos to an “Ideabook” to keep all your style ideas organized and in one place. To see what an item will look like in your home, click the “View in my room” button to see the item in 2D using your phone’s camera.
MagicPlan
Before buying new furniture, you need to make sure the items you plan to purchase fit in the room you’re decorating. It’s easy with the MagicPlan app! You can create a floor plan by inputting the room’s dimensions, drawing a rough sketch, or using your camera to create a floor plan. After adding the measurements, you can further customize the floor plan by adding doors, windows, and other structural features.
TapPainter
Paint swatches can give you an idea of what a color looks like in a room, but sometimes it’s hard to envision the whole room painted that color. Virtually paint your walls with the TapPainter app by choosing colors from brands including Benjamin Moore, Behr, and Sherwin Williams. Take photos of the room(s) you want to paint and compare different paint colors in the app. You can even experiment with accent walls.
DécorMatters
Design a room using AR with DécorMatters, an app that allows you to virtually add pieces and design elements to your home. Snap a photo of the room you want to decorate, and use the app to add and measure pieces; the 3D rendering makes it simple to see if an item will fit in your space. In addition, the app allows you to make purchases from popular retailers (i.e., Overstock, Target, Crate & Barrel) from your phone. And if you have a question, the in-app messaging offers free suggestions from DecorMatters interior designers.
